During the submissions and corrections process, you will be asked about the Artistic Discretion (AD) / Creativity Level you would like your ad to follow. Your ad production team could be the best in the world, however, their idea of how an ad should look may differ from yours. Therefore, it's best to provide them with guidance so that they meet or exceed your expectations -- not give you something you'll dislike.
A response to this question is required to submit ad copy or corrections.
There are three choices for Artistic Discretion (AD) / Creativity Level:
•Follow Layout Exactly (AD1) / AD1: Follow layout and instructions exactly.
The actual question title and values may vary slightly if your organization has chosen to modify them.
Selecting Follow Layout Exactly (AD1) implies that you will be supplying a layout with your submission. This could be an actual layout that you've drawn, photographed, or scanned. It can also be narrative that you type in that instructs the artist what to do.
Common situations where you might select Follow Layout Exactly (AD1) include:
•Straight Pickup -- a pickup where you wish for there to be no changes to the ad being picked up.
•Pickup with Changes where you plan to explicitly instruct the artist on which changes to make.
•An ad where you are going to provide a drawn, scanned, or described example of every aspect of the ad.
•Corrections where you are explicitly stating the only items you wish to have changed.
Selecting Some Interpretation (AD2) implies that you want the artist to make only minor variances from your layout and/or instructions. Supplying a layout detailing the changes are helpful, however, this can also be described or drawn. The artist will take a minimal amount of creative liberty in the design of your ad.
Frequently, additional questions will appear asking specifically where the artist should make changes such add/remove elements, copy changes, resizing, color change, etc. An example of these choices might look like the following:
Common situations where you might select Some Interpretation (AD2) include:
•Pickup with Changes where you are swapping out items, prices, copy, logos, and expiration dates.
•Pickup with Changes where you are simply freshening up the look of an ad seasonally, but do not wish for an entire redesign.
•An ad where you are going to provide a drawn, scanned, or described example of the majority of the ad, but wish to leave some layout details to the artist.
•Corrections where you are swapping out items, prices, copy, logos, and expiration dates.
Selecting Use Artistic Expression (AD3) implies that you want the artist to control the aesthetic of the ad. You will supply graphics, copy, and minimal design guidance, however, you expect the artist to use their skills to design something new or creative. A full layout is not required in this option, however, it is still encouraged.
Although you may have asked to Use Artistic Expression (AD3), additional choices will appear to help you guide the artist toward what type of design you'd like to see in the final ad. An example of these choices might look like the following:
Common situations where you might select Use Artistic Expression (AD3) include:
•New Ad Campaign.
•Spec Ad Campaign.
•Creating a new or fresh look for a customer.
